The Story

From the VooDoo Room to Karaoke Legend

Back in the 1960s and ’70s, this spot in Printers Alley was the VooDoo Room, a piano bar where local TV and radio personality Teddy Bart once played when he first arrived in Nashville. The alley itself has long been one of downtown’s most storied nightlife hideaways.

In 1989 it became Lonnie’s Western Room, and it has been Nashville’s karaoke destination ever since. According to Lonnie’s, the TV singing competition Nashville Star even got its start here, adding to a legacy that keeps drawing locals, visitors, and the occasional celebrity back to the stage.
